Cannot boot from external USB drive

Many users have external hard drives these days, and a common use is as a backup drive. Perhaps you’re considering keeping an external drive to be able to boot your Mac from in case something goes wrong. Then you should know that for you to be able to boot Mac OS X from an external drive it has to be Firewire, not USB. And if you go to the store to look at drives, chances are they’re going to be Firewire. Keep that in mind when you’re buying an external drive for your Mac.
